MY STORY

There were several milestones in my life where I noticed  my brain was not performing as expected.  I will spend time exploring a few key milestones but not all of them...

 

Ist milestone:  3rd grade -  I began falling behind in school and getting into trouble.  I had been told that I was very smart and believed this to be true until my 3rd grade year. My peers started to pull ahead academically and socially and I could not figure out how to keep up. Something was off but I couldn't put my finger on it. The only thing I knew to do was to try harder... that worked for awhile but ultimately created alot of stress and left me exhausted. I no longer enjoyed school. Most of my peers did not appear to be struggling in the same way but there were a few that did struggle and we gravitated to one another even though we were not the best influence for one another in a school setting.

2nd milestone: 6th grade - Middle school was a major adjustment but also exciting. I began to excel in sports and music but continued to struggle academically. In hindsight, it makes sense why physical activity, competition and the fine arts became a nice break from the high stress academic environment I was swimming in.

3rd milestone: 9th grade - High school was another major adjustment but provide even more excitement. as the world got bigger.... and full of more distractions. The challenge was academics continued to be difficult but I had developed some coping mechanisms or study skills to survive. The athletic ability I leaned on for years to keep me fulfilled and self confident was starting to slip as well. Unfortunately, when the going got tough, I began to quit. I was no longer in athletics throughout high school and it's a decision I would regret for many years. I simply did not know how to handle difficulty in an area where I once excelled. This defense mechanism became habit forming -- I would avoid, procrastinate or quit many things that were difficult for me, especially if there was low interest in the activity in the first place.

4th milestone - 11th grade - In light of many disappointments, I decided to take on the challenge of running for class president of all things... I was desperate to feel like I could make a positive difference in the world or at least in my high school class. I was well aware that I was not able to provide that sort of leadership academically or athletically anymore. I put everything into the campaign and won! Winning class president that year was life changing. However, politics and leadership quickly turned into another coping mechanism to cover up the life skills I continued to struggle with during high school, college and early on in my career.

 

5th milestone - College and early career - I was able to sell myself fairly well in social and business situations and gravitated to positions and opportunities where detailed mastery of subjects or expertise was not as important as knowing a little about alot of subjects in order to bring in the experts to help close deals. Sales and entreprenuership became a natural fit for me. I excelled to such an extent that I often got promoted into management positions... it worked out great if the role was focused on working with people to help them hit their goals but the management of detailed reports was not the best fit for me. Making decisions that required me to keep up with the details of all my sales reps accounts and mastery of the financial planning details was a real challenge. It was difficult to not let those stresses get the best of me. It took a toll on my health and the relationships at work and at home. Plus, I noticing these same struggles coming out in my own children. I had a watershed moment and declared:  "something had to change... there's got to be a better way."

 

6th milestone - ADHD, Aspergers and Neurodevelopmental Therapy - At age 40, I finally decided to look into an official diagnosis of what was going on with me and my youngest son's brain. This is when we got "labeled". It seemed conclusive that I had ADHD, audio processing delays and cross dominance issues that had been severely compromising my ability to learn and perform as expected since grade school. My son who was in grade school was diagnosed with being "on the spectrum" - high functioning Autism or Aspergers. With those revelations, I decide to make it my life mission to ensure he did not have to go through the level of challenges and stress that had impacted me for decades. The pursuit for finding solutions began immediately and has been a progressing journey for many years. We tried many things - some helped, some did not. We knew we did not want to rely on anything that would have some benefits but potentially cause worse long term damage or side effects (i.e. pharmaceuticals). There had to be a drug free path to normal cognitive performance. After a long search, I'm happy to say there is a drug-free way to improved cognitiive performance for those of us with "labels" as well as a clear path for "the rest of you" with normal cognition to achieve "peak performance" at any age. The answer to achieving your brain's peak performance is through "neuroplasticity" and "brain fitness training". My brain fitness programs take full advantage of this God-given feature of everyone's brain called neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is a scientifically proven feature of the human brain that allows anyone to make new neural connections to complete brain development or repair damage through the use of cutting edge technologies, therapies and exercise. The Neurodevelopmental Approach to achieve a "new normal" or "high performing brain" allows you to handle significant stress in stride and still enjoy life the way it was intended. It is my mission to help others tap into the full potential of their brains and to live a life of purpose as designed.
